For students and families, Operation Back 2 School is more than a supply pickup. It is a moment of encouragement before the first day of school.
Every volunteer role matters because every moment of care creates a ripple effect. A warm welcome can encourage a child. A backpack can relieve stress for a parent. A prepared student can walk into the classroom ready to learn. And when students start strong, families, teachers, schools, and the whole community are strengthened.
Hear from Operation Back 2 School volunteers and leaders about why they serve and how this event impacts students, families, and the community.
Volunteers help create a smooth and welcoming experience for students and families. Roles may include greeting families, helping with check-in, distributing backpacks and school supplies, translating, supporting hospitality, assisting with parking, setting up, tearing down, and more.
No matter where you serve, your role helps students and families feel welcomed, supported, and ready for the school year.

Greet students and families as they arrive and help them feel welcomed.

Assist families, volunteers, or registration teams so the event runs smoothly.

Help students receive the backpacks and school supplies for the year.

Assist with parking, translation, logistics, or other event needs.
HEB ISD families represent many languages and cultures, and translators help make Operation Back 2 School a more welcoming experience. Translators help families feel understood, supported, and confident as they move through the event.
Our greatest translation needs are Arabic, French, and Spanish.
Operation Back 2 School is suited for volunteers ages 12 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must serve alongside a parent or adult.
Individuals, families, churches, businesses, civic groups, student groups, and organizations can all serve. Every volunteer must sign up online and complete a volunteer profile, including the volunteer waiver.
Operation Back 2 School is a meaningful service opportunity for churches, businesses, civic groups, student groups, and organizations. Serving together gives your group a practical way to support local students and families.
Groups should complete the group volunteer interest form. After the form is submitted, a 6 Stones team member will contact you with next steps.
After you register, you will receive details about your shift, arrival time, location, and any instructions you need before serving.
On the day of your shift, come ready to welcome students and families, follow instructions from team leaders, and serve with flexibility. Your role may be simple, but it helps create an organized and encouraging experience for every family who attends.
We want every volunteer to know their time matters. Operation Back 2 School is designed so volunteers can step into clear roles, serve with purpose, and help families feel welcomed and supported.
When you volunteer, you are not just helping with school supplies. You are helping students begin the year with confidence, encouragement, and Hope.
Volunteer registration opens June 1.
You can sign up online through the Operation Back 2 School volunteer registration link here.
