Black vs Blue: Food Drive to Help Local Community
Community Can Bring Donations to Bell vs. Trinity Football Game
There will be plenty of winners tonight at the LD Bell vs. Trinity football game, as students from both high schools show their compassion for others by holding a food drive. Game attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to Pennington Field in Bedford. The donations will go to 6 Stones Mission Network to assist the local HEB community.
As with any hometown rivalry, the two high schools are trying to outdo each other, but in the end, local residents who need food this holiday season are the real winners, regardless of which team gets the highest score or brings the most donations.
“This is a great event, and it will launch our Christmas plan to provide for 600 HEB ISD families during the holidays,” Scott Sheppard, executive director of 6 Stones Mission Network, said. “We are thankful for the support for this event that we have received from the school district. As a local graduate, I’m proud of my district and cities.”
Dr. Gene Buinger, superintendent of schools, said this is important to many HEB families.
“The downturn in the economy has made it difficult for many of our families this year,” he said. “We are happy to partner with 6 Stones Mission Network to help our students and their families through the holidays. Our students alway rise to the occasion, and a friendly rivalry like this can really get people out to the game with their donations.”
Fans can take their donations to Mobile Attic containers located at the home and visitor entrances.
6 Stones Mission Network is a local non-profit / 501c3 established by First Baptist Church Euless, created with the intent of working with a coalition of churches, not-profit agencies and other entities to assist in meeting the needs of the people within the Hurst, Euless, Bedford community. Earlier this year, they donated school supplies to hundreds of HEB ISD students to help them start the school year.
See you tonight with your can goods! It’s going to be an incredible night!
