Building a Brighter Future, One Backpack at a Time

Hear from Operation Back 2 School volunteers as they share the joy, connection, and sense of purpose they gain by serving local students and families. See how giving back transforms not only lives but hearts.

Volunteer Roles

Each position is available in a morning and afternoon shift.

Adults and children 16 years and older are welcome to volunteer for
Operation Back 2 School.

Provide friendly, helpful guidance to families throughout the event. From directions to encouragement, you’re a key part of creating a welcoming environment. Hosts are the relational component to this event. Hosts will welcome and connect with families by helping families take supplies to their vehicles and inquire about any prayer needs.

Bilingual volunteers play a vital role in helping families feel heard and understood. Translators may assist in key areas like Greeters, Courtesy Hosts, or Registration Solutions to ensure every guest is welcomed and supported in their preferred language.

Serve as a friendly, relational presence by guiding families through the event, helping carry supplies to their vehicles, and offering prayer when appropriate. You’ll ensure every guest feels welcomed, supported, and seen.

Create a safe and smooth arrival experience by directing traffic and guiding guests to parking areas. As the first impression of the event, you’ll help set a positive, welcoming tone from the moment families arrive.

Assist families who arrive without the required Operation Back 2 School paperwork. With grace and patience, you’ll help resolve registration issues so every student can participate and receive their supplies.

Be one of the first friendly faces families see. You’ll welcome guests with a warm smile, check for OB2S paperwork, and direct those without it to Registration Solutions—helping set a positive tone for the entire event.

Welcome volunteers as they arrive, provide event details and t-shirts, and help them feel prepared to serve. You’ll also assist with tracking and packing any leftover shirts at the end of the shift.

Welcome families and guide them through the check-in process using a web-based system. Your attention to detail and kind demeanor help ensure a smooth, accurate start to their Operation Back 2 School experience.

Distribute backpacks to students and help fulfill specific requests with care and efficiency. You’ll restock as needed and create a joyful, Hope-filled moment for each child.

Work alongside Fire and Police personnel to hand off school supply kits to runners delivering them to families’ vehicles. Help restock as needed and keep the process running smoothly with a friendly, team-oriented approach.

Support fellow volunteers by managing rest areas, distributing snacks and meals, and keeping water stocked throughout the event. You’ll greet those needing a break, answer questions, and help with food pickups from local restaurants—ensuring our team feels refreshed and appreciated.

Help prepare the event space the day before by setting up tents, tables, chairs, signage, and supplies. You’ll follow layout maps to ensure everything is in place—including backpacks, school supply kits, and parking lot barricades—so the event runs smoothly from the start.

Provide on-site care for any health concerns that arise during the event. As a licensed medical professional, you’ll assess needs, determine next steps, and help ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
