Operation Back 2 School

Ubuntu = Teamwork

Ubuntu is an African proverb that translates “I am because we are, we are because I am”. It speaks truth about the interconnectedness of humanity within their community. We are to work toward the good of the whole; working together as a community to meet the needs of our neighbors. Hurst, Euless and Bedford may be three separate cities, but they, in many ways, are interconnected. Multiple times in his public addresses, Dr. Buinger challenged businesses, teachers, churches, parents, community members and even 6 Stones to “leave this community better than you found it”. In order to continue to do that, 6 Stones has been challenged to expand Operation Back 2 School to include Junior High and High School Students.

Fifty-four percent of the students who attend public school in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School district come from homes that qualify as economically disadvantaged. For the past four years, 6 Stones has successfully assisted these elementary students and their families by hosting Operation Back 2 School. This year, 6 Stones has been challenged to expand the event to the older brothers and sisters of these children by beginning to include some of the Junior High and High Schools in HEB ISD.

As 6 Stones is working to expand their services to impact more lives throughout the community, we are aware that we cannot continue to do so without YOU–without your support, without your prayers, without your partnership, without your financial contributions, or without your volunteer hours! We need you now more than ever. We are asking you to embrace Ubuntu right here in our community–to come together to work alongside our Junior High and High School students, to help them not only by providing them with the essential supplies they need to be successful in school, but, by doing so, teaching them the value of working together for the good of the whole… Ubuntu.
