Cool Thoughts by Alex

Jenks Oklahoma, 1955
8 year old Alex Horton is on his way to Dad’s grocery store (lower left in photo). His job for today is to sweep up around the meat market but,in reality, he is on forward reconnaissance of an opportunity – Dad’s ice cream freezer is down, again (yes!) – and if confirmed he and his friends will be eating Meadow Gold 3oz ice cream cups for the rest of the day. This, of course, is an emergency, forget the sweep up.

Bedford Texas, April 2012
Today, 65 year old Alex Horton is a volunteer for 6 Stones and is dealing with another issue concerning frozen food & refrigerated food storage in that it is almost totally non existent in our warehouse and much needed.

After a 40 year career in the grocery products industry, Alex knows that there are many opportunities to secure donated grocery products if 6 Stones has the logistical assets (warehouse space, cold storage & transportation) to store the product and meet all regulations for food safety. To effectively solicit these food donations a non profit must be able to convince very large well known companies that 6 Stones will handle their food donations promptly, on a consistent basis all year and with food safety as a priority.  And, it would be nice to get credit for their donation as corporate outreach in the community.

The current fund raising effort is in support for our most immediate need which is frozen & refrigerated food cold storage in a size that allows 6 Stones to accept truckload (24 pallets) quantities – 500 square feet each of two cold storage units.

Questions: email Alex or look in the warehouse – he’ll be there sweeping up, unless of course, there’s ice cream needing attention.
