Community Garden Update
Spring is on its way and you can see lots of green sprouting in the Community garden! Gardeners have been tending their winter crops of broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbages and greens, and are now preparing their beds for spring planting. Fruit trees were pruned this past weekend, thanks to the expertise of volunteers and master gardeners, who learned the techniques in a “Pruning Fruit Trees” class held in the Pavilion.
The Community Garden is in its second full year of production. In 2012, over 2500 pounds of produce was harvested. 77 plots are leased to individuals and/or groups who agree to bring at least half their harvest to the New Hope Center, helping feed the clients and encouraging them to get involved in the garden as well. 17 plots are still available to lease. An 8’ plot is $20, a 12’ plot is $30 and a 16’ plot is $40. All new applicants must also pay a $20 fee for a background check.
Have you noticed the new Pavilion? What a great location for a meeting, family reunion or even a wedding! It is available to rent for a nominal fee. Contact 6 Stones for additional details at 817-868-7400 or [email protected].
The time you invest today will have a long lasting effect on the community…come and join us! Here are some of the classes and events planned this spring:
