Be ready when you are called

One evening, a volunteer called to let us know that she and her husband would not be able to volunteer as New Hope counselors the following afternoon. This would leave us in a tight spot. We would only have one counselor to talk with all of the clients. In the morning, we called Joyce, to see if she was be able to come in. Joyce has been volunteering at New Hope for 3 months, although she was a bit hesitant when she first began, she constantly said, “The Lord has commanded me to do this, and each day I just do whatever he has for me to do.” That morning Joyce was spending time praying. During that time, she prayed, “Lord, just show me today how I can serve you. Show me who I can share your love and hope with.” Not five minutes after she prayed, the phone rang.

It’s amazing – when we ask God to show us how we can serve him and love other people, he will always provide opportunities. We just have to be willing and ready.
